Italian Film Week
13 – 17 June 2023

Italian Film Week, with the subtitle “Making Film”, is taking place simultaneously in many countries around the world. For the sixth time in a row, the Slovenian Cinematheque is organising it in cooperation with the Italian Cultural Institute in Slovenia. From 13 to 17 June, we will be briefly transported to the Apennine Peninsula to see contemporary feature and short films. On the opening night, 13 June, at 7pm, we will pay tribute to the great actress Monica Vitti with a screening of Michelangelo Antonioni’s classic The Eclipse (1962), screened from a 35mm print.

Considered Antonioni’s stylistic peak, The Eclipse represents a return by the cineaste to the theme that most often preoccupied him: the alienation of man and the difficulty of interpersonal relationships in the modern world. The story of a young woman (Monica Vitti) who leaves one lover (Francisco Rabal) and slips into a relationship with another (Alain Delon) is set against the architectural backdrop of Rome.
